Brewing battle on the right

Enda Kenny tried to kick up some dirt during the week by trying to throw the immigration debate back into centre stage, something which could be seen as Fine Gael’s attempt to prove itself to the centre-right/right.
As everyone, especially Michael McDowell, knows Fine Gael’s number two priority (perhaps even number one) is to squeeze the PDs into irrelevance and history, and playing on immigration fears is one way to do that (another is to try and hit the party through FG’s other strong point, crime).
Unsurprisingly, McDowell has responded swiftly with some kite-flying of his own.
Should we expect a tit-for-tat battle for centre-right/right-wing voters in the coming weeks? Or will both parties get cold feed and pull back for fear of alienating a lot of voters?

I don’t think anyone will be alienated by a genuine debate on immigration. You see, the immigration issue was always swept under the mat by the mainstream media to avoid insulting our big immigrant population.
